BILLY YELLOW, NAVAJO MEDICINE MAN
Billy Yellow says he is "about 100 years old." He lives in the north end of Monument Valley in Southern Utah. I took this image of him when we were doing a documentary on Monument Valley and he did a Healing Way ceremony for us in his hogan.

Billy Yellow was John Wayne's personal "advisor" when the famous movie star filmed several movies in Monument Valley.

Billy Yellow is one of the last of the old Medicine Men who still practice the ways of turn-of-the-century Navajos.

This is a striking, tack-sharp image, revealing all the wrinkles and hairs of a Navajo Medicine Man who has lived in the vastness of a lonely land for a long time.
